Last summer's workshops, ceremonies and other events across the USA in 2009 offered an experience of apprenticeship and immersion in wisdom teachings that have been kept alive for millennia in the remote mountains of Peru. This summer, the beloved maestro, healer, and ceremonialist Don Mariano Quispe, will travel for the second time from his Q'ero village high above treeline in the Andes to North America.

Called here by a series of dreams, in June 2010 Don Mariano will again share teachings and ceremonial experiences based in the expression of Munay, as the Quechua language describes the powerful energy of deep, compassionate Love. Join Don Mariano to share part of his pilgrimage, experiencing an awareness of expanded possibilities for profound personal and planetary healing.

The deceptively simple, yet immensely powerful practices of the Andes, transcend cultural differences between the Andes and the Western world. As you expand your own skills and abilities, you will find your heart opening into a vivid awareness that you are part of the living universe, moving into a profound sense of alignment with the natural forces of our world. The rich array of practices that have been preserved and kept alive in the remote villages of the high mountains of the Andes offer the possibility of transforming our relationship with ourselves, with each other and with the fast-paced modern world in which we live.

About Don Mariano Quispe

Don Mariano Quispe, a beloved elder of the Q'eros people of Peru, has served his community as a pampamesayoq (a healer-ceremonialist who works with despachos and other natural elements of the earth) since he was young. He was recognized by his community four years ago as a Kurak Akulleq, a title reserved for only the most highly esteemed of healer-ceremonialists, in recognition of his clear spiritual vision and healing gifts.

A maestro of the ceremonies of haywarikuy (more often known as despachos), don Mariano is also well known for skillful diagnosis as part of traditional healing practices; he primarily uses coca divinations and expert reading of the body's multiple pulse points to determine what is out of balance in the patient's body and life.

Traditional Q'ero Teachings: From the Andes and into the Modern World

Don Mariano speaks eloquently of the need for the ancestral wisdom teachings and ancient prophecies to move down from the high Andes, where they have been preserved and guarded for centuries, into the cities and the faraway modern world. Since a few years ago when he began to come down from the mountains and to meet people from other parts of the world, don Mariano has been remarkably generous in offering his ceremonies and teachings to visitors whose homes are far away from his isolated home village in the Andes.

Don Mariano's Connections with the Mesa Community:

You may have had the opportunity to experience a taste of Don Mariano's beautiful ceremonial work at The Heart of the Healer Foundation's international gathering in the Sacred Valley of Peru in 2007, where he was an invited elder representing the medicine path of the Q'ero people of the high Andes.

Or you may have met don Mariano through the ceremonies he has offered during trips to Peru with our longtime, gifted teacher, Oscar Miro-Quesada, whose Pachakuti Mesa teachings have brought so many together as part of a heart-centered shamanic community.

We also want to add a special "Thank you" for all that don Mariano has so generously offered as one of the principal teachers who accompanied us on Native Voices' series of "Hummingbird" journeys. These trips offered participants a chance to deepen their apprenticeship in Andean healing and ceremonial ways working closely and directly with our own indigenous teachers -- traditional healers, medicine people and ceremonialists -- while experiencing the beauty of some of the most powerful sacred places in the heart of the Andes.

Don Mariano's First Journey to the USA

This summer's visit to the United States will be don Mariano's first trip to North America, which several of us have joined together to help to sponsor and support. See the description to the left for more details and who to contact for information about events in different regions.

We all are excited and honored to be part of bringing to life don Mariano's long-held vision of ceremonially feeding the great mountains, the Apus of North America ~ and invite you to weave yourself into this pilgrimage, giving yourself the gift of learning from and spending time with this warm, humorous and powerful teacher, as he experiences the United States for the first time.
